Celebrating culture on the Grid

After the Grid wide festivities for Halloween, Winter and Christmas have hit with a vengeance... Perhaps some of this is because an American love of display and decoration? Just about everywhere has some indication of the time of year. We bizarrely have a giant Turkey gun, though I still haven't spotted the giant turkey. Last year, as a noob, winter was not something that I wanted to interact with in my virtual world, but I find this year that I've joined in wholeheartedly and overcome my English reserve.

Culture is often shared in Second Life in sims such as Morocco and Jerusalem to increase cultural understanding and possibly promote visitors to the RL location. SL offers you not only the opportunity to experience the architecture and art of a place, but also to meet people of that nationality and to discuss ideas.

What's interesting about the Grid-wide celebrations is that sharing takes place on a much wider scale, but in a more informal way. Smaller festivals, for instance Guy Fawkes Day, become marked by friends of other nationalities. I'm adopting a love to decoration and display through my friends. Cultural values are shared and intermingled through friendships, and shown for the world to see in how we decorate our Second Lives.
